Im a sophomore in high school and I want to take AP english my junior year. I asked my teacher what english class i should take and she said "american lit" (normal english) I have always tested high in yearly english tests, and my grade in english is an A. Should I still try to take the ap english exam ? and what should I say if my counselor gives me a hard time about wanting to take the class without teacher recommendation ?
High School?
it all depends on you
if you think you can do it
then do it
it'll be great for college
and i say you should try it
it's a lot of hard work
but it'll be worth it
if you stay dedicated
and don't slack off.
so take the test!
if you do
good luck!

Reply:It has been my experience that there is no one better to tell you if you can pass an exam, succeed in a class, or do well in anything than yourself. If your teacher tells you that you should not take the exam because you won't pass it, but you really think you can pass it, take it anyways. In high school I have had teachers tell me I could not pass a certain class (or series of classes) only to get straight A's and 5's on the AP exams, despite of what they said. If you really believe you can do it, you should not listen to what other people have to say.
At least thats my opinion.
Reply:Well your counselor shouldn't give you a hard time if you want to take an advanced course. i think you should take the exam but try talking to your teacher first and tell her that you want to take an advanced english course. Many teachers don't want to force their students into something they think they can't handle. Many teachers always tell their students to take a regular class. Try talking to her and your counselor. But i don't think your counselor would ask for a recommendation if you just go and tell them that you want to be placed in a advanced class
Reply:I am currently in AP English, and you will do fine in this class if you are able to analyze and write essays well ( we write a lot of essays). I suggest looking at an AP English study guide to decide if this is a good course for you.
