Im a sophomore in high school and I want to take AP english my junior year. I asked my teacher what english class i should take and she said "american lit" (normal english) I have always tested high in yearly english tests, and my grade in english is an A. Should I still try to take the ap english exam ? and what should I say if my counselor gives me a hard time about wanting to take the class without teacher recommendation ?

I say go ahead and take the exam, if you fail all they'll do is keep you in reg. english. Your counselor can't and shouldn't advise you against taking a higher english class. Adults know a lot, but they aren't right on everything!
